Amongst the hundreds of thousands of lives lost in Haiti's tragic earthquake, there were artists, students, teachers, christians, business people, politicians, cops, rich, poor, young, old. They along with the millions of internally displaced must remind us that we all share a same world and a same destiny. The lessons learned must reflect in our decisions and actions to respond for the better to the risks posed by poverty, injustice, exclusivity, division and exploitation. That we shouldn't take our loved ones, our possessions, even our own lives for granted.

@Angie4Haiti -- as I noted on twitter to @renewal4haiti - what the quake showed me was that I could give, even when I thought I had no way or nothing to give. God made a way for me to give, all I had to do was be obedient to act on it.
The earthquake in Haiti caused me to appreciate more what I have, to view the world in crisis and to get out of my own problems. It created a new awareness of the critical needs not only in Haiti, but also in Pakistan and African continent. There is so much need, but what I can do is focus on ONE person, on ONE child, and when I do that.... I can make a difference.
I had a tuition refund that was $1,000 more than I expected, and through that I gave initial shelter donation of tents. I participated in a fun online bake sale with @TheChicLife, and did not need to bake cookies for months (I just unfroze them), and I then shifted to Haitian run charities, or small grass roots groups - because there was less waste and MORE action!
Haiti is a learning experience on aid gone wrong -- years of mistakes -- that Haitians are paying for in their very lives. I know I can do little, but if thousands of us do "a little" think what a HUGE impact those thousands of voices will make!!
This is the mind set change that I experienced - that I was not helpless, that I was NOT insignificant - that MY small portion mattered when it was combined with many others giving what they could too!
By the way, when I called to order my tents, I was referred to a broker who gave me 75% off - and free shipping because a church group just happened to being going to pick up their order from the same vendor, and offered to add mine!! Then another charity donated the freight all the way to Haiti!! SEE!! GOD'S MULTIPLICATION was at least 4 times what I had in my hand -- I was ONLY REQUIRED TO TAKE THE FIRST STEP!!
