Léogâne

The town of Léogâne is located at the epicenter of the earthquake of January 12th.

Some stats about the town, pre and post 1/12:

• 20 miles from Port-au-Prince
• It's the largest producer of rum in the country
• It's 2.4 km from the sea and has a large population of fishermen
• Produces over half of the sugar cane of the nation
• In less than a minute, 90% of its buildings were destroyed.
• It's the second earthquake to destroy Léogâne, the last in 1770
• Out of an initial population of 134,000, 40,000 are dead
